In what 247Sports.com Keith Niebuhr is describing as a”MONSTER” commitment for the South Carolina Gamecocks, we introduce you to, 4-Star linebacker Larenz Bryant. Bryant, 2014 prospect heralds from Charlotte, N.C. and is entering his senior season at Vance High school.
Per TheBigSpur, Niebuhr describes his thoughts on the Gamecocks newest commitment and what is already an impressive 2014 class, including 4-Star QB, Connor Mitch.
”-I saw Larenz at the Charlotte Nike camp in May — and as impressive as he is on film he’s even better in person.
-I’m told some folks at Nike said his performance in Charlotte was among the best they had EVER seen at a Nike event. Yes, I said EVER.
-Although Larenz is not that big, his speed, quickness, explosiveness, strength and hunger give him an edge. He plays with a purpose and that is obvious.
-In one-on-ones with the RBs, he couldn’t be blocked. Not only is he strong, but he has long arms and he uses that reach to his advantage. He doesn’t let an opponent get into his body.
-He is absolutely ripped physically. No bad weight whatsoever.
-Like I said, good speed … and excellent movement both laterally and when dropping into coverage. He reads the ball well, and has an exceptional job closing.
-As you know Alabama liked it’s LBs to be on the big side — yet the Tide still offered Larenz and I’m told absolutely was in love with him.”
Some intriguing thoughts on this impressive prospect. At 6’1” and 210 lbs, Bryant has been clocked in the sub 4.4 to 4.5 range. In watching his high school highlights, his speed on both the defensive and offensive side of the ball is the strongest aspect of his game, at this point. He has a frame that can easily be built on, which may sacrifice some speed at the collegiate level. Nonetheless, he’s an exciting player that Gamecock fans should be excited about. Check out his highlights!
